Diana Niksic
1951-05-25 2006-03-20Following is a tribute that appeared on Diana's cancer website near the time she passed (provided by Donna Dees Nehring): Once again we must say goodbye to another very special person. Diana Niksic, known to many as "Red" (due to her curly red hair), was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in March of 2004. She was successfully operated on and finished her chemotherapy treatments. It appeared that Red had beaten the cancer. Things were looking good for her two years later, when in late December of 2005, she caught a cold or the flu (not sure which) and was up and down on a daily basis. Finally, in March, she was diagnosed with and treated for pneumonia. On March 20, 2006, at about 10:15 p.m., while watching TV, Red died from a pulmonary embolism. In spite of her apparent bad luck, Red was a person with a very positive attitue and outlook on life and a wonderful and witty sense of humor. She was a very, very talented person, known for her artwork with gourds, painting, knitting and quilting. One of the things Red felt very strongly about was passing the word about cancer awareness. Early detection can be the thing that saves your life. We love you Red.

tribute by Linda Young NehringI just found out about Dee's death. I am in shock. I always loved Diana. I always thought "someday" our time would be right. But now I know she is gone. I pray for her sisters, brother and children. I feel as though a part of me has died. Dee was smart, beautiful and one of the kindest people I have ever met. God is enjoying her smile and her humor. I have an empty hole in my soul that I do not think will ever be filled. Rest in Peace my love.
