Doug, what a nice tribute to Bob, and a perfect description of him. I played in orchestra with Bob from 7th grade on, and I remember him as shy and quiet, and actually taller than I, and he really loved to play. In 9th grade ensemble, Miss Thompson let Bob play 1st violin on "Over the Rainbow," and those of us who usually played 1st (including me) weren't very gracious about it, but I remember how passionate Bob was, playing that piece. For years, I've often thought of Bob when playing "Over the Rainbow" and wondered if he still played. I think it's a nice song to be remembered by, so fly with those "happy little bluebirds," Bob.

For reasons I cannot fathom now, I played violin in H.S. Bob sat next to me, and we became fairly good friends. He used to bring his violin over to my house, and we would practice together. Bob was an easygoing, good-natured soul, generous and kind to everyone, and not at all stuck-up like that girl who played the piano. Rest easy big fellow.
