Jim Maloney
1951-01-18 1980-09-15Hi. I am Jim's brother, Dave (RGHS '71). Thank you Patty, Doug and Jill for remembering Jim and thanks for your very kind words about him. I agree fully with all of you that Jim was a VERY nice guy, one of the best men I have ever known. I think of him often and your writings are much appreciated. I hope all is well and good with you all. Thanks and take care.
tribute by Dave MaloneyIn elementary school, we sat near each other (alphabetical order!) and I'll always think of him as "Jimmy." He had that big, infectious grin, and was always so nice. I don't ever remember Jim being unkind to anyone. My favorite memory of Jim happened in Mr. DeSpain's geometry class, where Jim, of course, sat in front of me in the "M's." He turned around and made a little comment that totally cracked me up and then we couldn't stop laughing, and giggled through the rest of the class, without getting caught. (No small feat in DeSpain's class!) I learned of Jim's passing at our 20th reunion, and it was hard to believe he was gone. I wish his friends and family well, and if his children are reading this: Jimmy Maloney was a nice guy!
tribute by Jill Maret FergusonGreat Teammate Jim and I played baseball together and I remember his soft and quiet ways. He was always supportive of me, helped me with my hitting. After he showed me a better way to swing, I hit a triple, looked up at the dugout, and was he smiling at me. Those bursts of memory will never go away. Jim served his country to the highest honor and will forever be in my mind as a teammate!
tribute by Doug AllenJim was one of the best guys I ever knew. He was sweet and caring and always had an upbeat positive attitude. He was in Vietnam when his father passed away and he was able to come home for a while for the funeral. Before he went back, his Mom had a barbecue for a bunch of his guy friends and I was invited as "one of the guys." We were very good buddies and I miss him dearly. One summer I was teaching summer school and I lived in Bissell Hills very close to Jim's Mom. When I came home from school there was a note from Jim on my door. He had walked over to my house to show me his twin baby boys and I missed him. A short time later Jim was in an accident in his truck near Rolla and was killed. What a tragedy. I hope his wife, Donna (Walker) and three kids are doing fine.
tribute by Patty Geller-boudriaJim was the best of friends. I became friends with Jim in middle school. That friendship lasted till the end. Since then I have become close to Jim's entire family, Butch, Dave and Mike, and Donna, his wife, who I still stay in touch with. All great, honest and respected men. What a wonderful family. I have so many great memories. The trouble we caused, the pocket games, Hall Street and Steak & Shake. I, among many, will remember him always.
