1956-57 VARSITY CHEERLEADERS. ECHOES 1957. The new campus on Shepley Drive opened in September 1956 (when the Class of 1969 started Kindergarten). However, the new campus was used as the Junior High School that school year and housed the 8th and 9th grade classes in the Riverview Gardens School District. This picture of the Varsity Cheerleaders was taken in the gym at what eventually became East Junior High. My guess is that Judy Wheeler on the right is our classmate Nancy Wheeler's sister, a 1959 RGHS Graduate!

1956-57 JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS. ECHOES 1957. This Junior High Squad was the first to lead the cheers at the new campus on Shepley Road. These girls would have been members of the Class of 1960 and the Class of 1961. I would appreciate anyone who can help identify them by name. The uniforms and styles were certainly in for a big change in the years to come!

1957-58 VARSITY CHEERLEADERS. ECHOES 1958. From left to right are Mary McFarland, Becky Burnette, Captain Sue Hanks, Dee Hall, Lynn LeBeau, Barbara Junkins and Judy Wheeler. The Class of 1969 was a group of 1st Graders during this Squad's tenure at the High School!

1963-64 VARSITY CHEERLEADERS. ECHOES 1964. Front: Lynn Niemann, Captain Ginny Wolfe, Mary Jo Dunnegan. Back: Carol Jansing, Gayle Ronan, Pam White and Sue Chilton. This is one of the earliest pictures taken of the RGHS VARSITY CHEERLEADERS with the VICTORY BELL, a gift from the RGHS Class of 1963. There were two Sophomores, one Junior and four Seniors on the Squad. This was the first year that only Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors attended the High School. Freshmen stayed behind at East Junior High and Central Junior High. The Class of 1969 was in for all kinds of new experiences as 7th Graders in Junior High and attended school with both 8th and 9th Graders! It was daunting!

A DOLLAR!

All of the sisters are 1967 RGHS Graduates. I believe the 1964-65 school year was the first year that RGHS sponsored a Junior Varsity Cheerleading Squad comprised solely of Sophomores!

1965-66 VARSITY CHEERLEADERS. ECHOES 1966. Front: Sandy Gordon and Sue Chilton. Seated: Joan Niebur and Chris Schrumm. Standing: Joan Harris, Pat Dowling, Connie Brunette and Captain Gayle Ronan. This picture is one of my favorites. The colors are fabulous! The RGHS VARSITY CHEERLEADERS had great looking uniforms! Joan Niebur was the only Junior on the Squad. All of the other Cheerleaders were Seniors. Only one more school year stood between High School and the Class of 1969--9th Grade!
