PROM DATES
SEPTEMBER 1967 - AUGUST 1968
(Class of 69 - Junior Year thru Summer of 1968)
WHO REMEMBERS PROM MAGAZINE? Ten Cents an issue!! Prom Magazine was founded by publisher Julian Miller, a lifelong St. Louisian. PROM MAGAZINE was first published in March 1947 and last published in the early 1970s. PROM chronicled the happenings at both public and private high schools in the St. Louis area and featured a monthly column for each high school. Two student reporters designated by each participating school wrote the columns for their school.
Riverview Gardens High School signed on with PROM MAGAZINE in December 1954. The RGHS column moniker was RIVERVIEW RITES, and Jane Curt and Larry Anderson were the first RGHS Prom Reporters. At Ram Academy, it became a tradition that the Student Council President and Vice President served as Prom Reporters. Prom Reporters not only wrote the monthly RIVERVIEW RITES colums but also attended PROM MAGAZINE events throughout the school year, including interviews with national celebrities.
Following are all of the RIVERVIEW RITES columns that appeared in PROM MAGAZINE during our Junior year through the summer of 1968. Also included are all of the photos related to RGHS and featured in PROM during that time period. Dudley McCarter and Karen Walker were our Prom Reporters.
