TEAMS
The pictures on this page should bring back great memories for everyone that played on softball and baseball teams as kids. Even if you aren't pictured in the photos below, you might get a kick out of looking them over. For good measure, we're throwing in some outliers and school teams. All of the comments on this page that are not dated were posted on the Ramsite launched in 2008 and retired in 2016. All comments posted after the launch of this RamSite on August 3, 2018 will be dated as of the date posted. If you have a picture or comment to post or can identify some of the kids, Contact Us.
One of the great teams that was a vital part of the RGHS Class of 69 was our team of Senior Class Sponsors: Mr. Duncan, Mr. Robertson and Mr. Bowen. They provided support and guidance during our Senior Year and continued to stay in touch over the years. All three came to our 40th Reunion Party. Sadly, Mr. Duncan and Mr. Bowen are no longer with us. They are dearly missed. But we did see Mr. Roberston at the 50th to carry on the tradition!

I also have some pictures just like this one somewhere in my old scrap books. Same lovely uniforms--different girls. I played with or against many of these girls and others. This brings back great memories of Khoury League softball teams at Bob Russell and Surrey Lane baseball fields. Lots of fun and great competition. Remember--we always got snowcones, win or lose! Thanks for sharing.
Cheryl Niebur Lapinski
I have pictures like this as well. We probably all played against one another in grade school!! I played for Meadows Elementary with Cathy Moss, Linda Olsen, Charlotte Tourville, Nancy English, Jeanne Warmann and a bunch of others I can't think of right now. I'll get MY photos out!!
Linda Young Nehring
Hi Linda and everyone. Charlotte Tourville here and I would love to see the picture. Hopefully you can post it.
Charlotte Tourville Showalter
I couldn't believe someone still had that picture of our 62 team. It brings back so many memories of good times. Mr. Beach was the greatest! He not only taught us the game but sportsmanship as well. At that age we were only allowed to pitch four innings, so Joan and I would take turns. After my kids got older, I went back to playing slow pitch softball at Koch Park and in Bridgeton until three years ago. I had my kids and my Dad at most of my games. Softball has always been my favorite sport. Thanks for the memories!
Patty Kelly Heacock
OMG! Great picture. I was on a different team. Does anyone remember the team sponsored by Math Hermann and Sons Funeral Home????? I also have a team picture (somewhere) with Alison Wynn, Barb Young, et al. I think you Glasgow gals beat up on us quite a bit, but gosh, it was soooooo much fun! Thanks for sharing the picture and memories of when it didn't hurt so much to be that active.

Crain Realty 1959 Baseball Team
Bill Schulenburg provided the picture.
From this photo, you can see the nine year old (back row-Dave Guckes) who was always making the errors....and those who were serious (back row right--Gene Ude, Bill Schulenburg and John Lindquist [missing front tooth]). Also....the most serious--Jerry Wildman (center @bats) and Mike Cimicata (two to the right of Jerry). Two great coaches (Cimicata and Lindquist-back row right). Notice the converse high tops, wood bats and four-finger ball gloves.
Bill Schulenburg
Thanks a lot Bill!! Wait till my kids see this. I remember how Ude and you said, "Lets make a face for the picture,” and I said, "Sure." What a set up!! I quess that was the begining of being a class clown. I have thought about that team and the fun we had. It is funny how our team had most of the football team who started. You, me, Lindquist, Ude, and later, Snodgrass, Lanier, Bourg. I quess we were better at football than baseball.
Dave Guckes
To Dave Guckes: Don't take any stuff off those guys! A few years later, we thought you were the best player on our team.
Rick Heldman
Well Dave, I'm not entirely sure what there was to be so serious about at the ripe old age of nine, but I was sure enough serious about something! I think I also may still have this picture, as well as a few others. I'll see if I can find them and dust 'em off for the reunion!

Patty Geller-Boudria provided the picture of the Canaries, taken at Wilson Park in Glasgow Village during the summer of 1961. We played in a Glasgow Village Improvement Association (GVIA) league, and our uniforms were a bright canary yellow. At the end of the season, we played an All Star Game. The Canaries fielded six All Stars (Patty Geller, Patty Gabbert, Jill Shelton, Sharon Siesner, Debbie Hellman and Jane Byers). Patty Geller was the star ALL STAR. In the bottom of the 7th, we were down by three runs and Patty was up to bat with the bases loaded. True to form, she hit a Grand Slam to win the game! It was a fantastic, singular moment in our childhood. I still remember her rounding the bases at breakneck speed, whipping us all into a frenzy as she crossed home plate. We mobbed her. It seems so amazing that the memory of this game (when we were only ten years old) is still so clear to both of us. We loved playing on this team. On a final note, take a look at the shapes of the bills on the caps. They sure do reveal some individuality.

Steve Harris provided the picture of the 9th Grade Central Junior High Football Team (1965)--all from the Class of 69. They look so young!
You guys looked like an army! At East Jr. High,we had about sixteen guys that played, as I recall. Do the math. If it was more than that, it couldn't have been many more. I still remember what play Coach Elliot called for the first play of every one of your games. And, I do remember his nickname, also. Anybody else? I can also recall spending the last three quarters helping Phil Nour trying to double-team Gene Ude. Coach Whitlock called me to the side and said, "This guy's killing us, do whatever you have to do to stop him." Joe Paulsen managed to complete a few passes. But, as per a typical result, I believe Art Verme made an unbelievable, long, broken-field run for our only score.
Rick Heldman
And where are those gorgeous cheerleaders????? I'm sorry I don't have a picture of us to accompany the comment, but wow.....do I remember cheering for the Central Sabers and especially loving this football team!
